Week 5 - Day 2

*What are "go foods," "grow foods," and "glow foods?"
*From where are flax seeds thought to have originated?
*What nutrients do flax seeds have?

Find out the answers to these questions in the Healthy Home Ec book.

Welcome back to week 5 day 2!
This breakfast is easy, quick to make, and so good for you.

Gather your supplies and ingredients.
(Not all ingredients are shown here.
Be sure to read the lesson in the Healthy Home Ec book.)

Grind the grains as directed in the Healthy Home Ec book.
You can grind both grains together and get the desired amount of flour needed for this recipe.
(See the bold * directions on page 68 under the title "Breakfast Bars.")

Make sure the grain mill is turned on before adding the grain,
and remains on for several seconds after the grain is ground
to prevent kernels from becoming lodged in the blades.
I hold my hands over the mill at the end so kernels don't pop out.

Level the flour with the back of a knife to get the correct amount.

Add the correct measurement of flour to the mixing bowl.

Add the rolled oats.

Add the remaining dry ingredients.

Add the wet ingredients to the glass measuring cup.

 Mix gently to combine.

Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix together.

Add the mixture to the baking dish.

Bake as directed in the Healthy Home Ec book.

 The finished product:

This breakfast bar goes great with a cup of hot tea.
Before we left our home in Florida, our friends hosted a "farewell" dinner party for us.
Rosanna served this African Rooibos tea.  It was the first time we had ever had it.
Being a cold, February evening, we savored the tea, the meal, and the fellowship.
Every time I drink it now, I think of my dear friends in Florida.

If it's a nice day when you work on this lesson,
perhaps you'd enjoy your breakfast outdoors
with a "good book."

We used dates or figs in this lesson.
You can review their health benefits on page 36.
Cardamom, used in this lesson, is related to the ginger family,
which makes it good for digestion and for the stomach and intestines.
It is an ancient spice native to the Middle East, North Africa, India, and Scandinavia.

My favorite book is the Bible.  It contains all the answers to life's questions.
Can't see which way to go in life?  Read Psalm 119:105.
Don't understand what's going on in this world?  Read Psalm 119:104 and 130.
Feeling hopeless?  Read Psalm 119:43
Feeling fearful?  Read Psalm 118:6.
Wondering why you're struggling?  Read 2 Corinthians 4:17.
All of these point to God's Word for direction in life.
"Blessed are those...who seek him (God) with their whole heart...and walk in his ways."
(Ps. 119:1-3)
"How can a young person keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to Thy Word."
(Ps. 119:9)

I pray that you spend time everyday in God's Word, getting to know Him,
understanding His ways, feeling His power and love for you.
Learn what His promises are for you as His child.
He is always faithful and will never leave you alone.

Be blessed, dear friend!
