Week 6 - Day 1

*What is the difference between family style service, blue-plate service, English service, and
buffet style service?
*From which side of the chair should you sit down to the table?
*If serving a guest, plates should be placed and removed from which side of your guest?
*When should candles be used and lit when used as a centerpiece?
*An interesting saying to help you remember what foods / dishes go where is _________.

Here are some examples of an informal table setting.

Here the bowl would be used for salad; the small plate used for bread and butter.
If serving soup, place the bowl to the right of the soup spoon,
and the small plate above the forks for the salad.
Either the soup or the salad could be placed directly on the dinner plate 
if using the blue-plate method of service.

Here are some examples of a formal table place setting.
Read page 78 to see what each dish is used for.




The soup bowl here is placed on the dinner plate.
This would be removed from the table once the soup as been eaten.




The difference between a salad plate or bread and butter plate
and a saucer
is that the saucer will have a ring in it for holding the coffee cup in place.

Remember that hospitality is not just about having lavish food, an immaculate house,
or beautiful decorations.
The goal of hospitality is investing in the lives of others.
Always put people above the event itself and spend time with your guests.
Be a good listener, invite good conversation,
and serve your guests and your family with love!!
