Week 3 - Day 2

*After reading today's lesson in the Healthy Home Ec book, you'll know that:

1.  The bright orange color in pumpkins reminds us that pumpkins are loaded with an important anti-oxidant called:
 a. Niacin
 b. Vitamin D
 c. Beta-carotene
This antioxidant converts to Vitamin A in the body which stimulates the immune system to fight infections, acting as a natural antibiotic; it also protects against aging, night blindness, and cancers.

2.  The largest pumpkin ever grown weighed:
 a. 1,140 pounds
 b. 500 pounds
c. 365 pounds

Welcome back!  Today's bread is made with freshly ground whole grain, natural sugars and spices, and pumpkin.  It's a perfect bread for energy to start your day.
Find out the benefits of pumpkin in the Healthy Home Ec book.
Let's get started.

Nutmeg is better if freshly ground.

Find out the benefits of grape seed oil in today's lesson.

Raw, locally grown honey is best.  Locally grown honey can help alleviate allergy symptoms.
Read more about the benefits of honey in the Healthy Home Ec book.
*Note:  Step 2 in the procedure today should read "...combine raw sugar, honey, oil, and eggs..."

I usually crack my eggs into a separate bowl, and then add them to the mixing bowl.  I learned that lesson once when a rotten egg went into the batter, and I had to start all over.  Not fun.  Glad I didn't have to relearn that lesson today as I cracked the eggs right into the batter because of limited time in making today's bread.  But learn from my past...crack your eggs into a separate bowl today.

Sometimes after grinding the grain, the flour is warm.
Allow the flour to cool before adding it to any recipe.

Always use aluminum-free baking powder.
Check today's ingredients because not all of them are shown in these pictures.

Grind your own whole nutmeg for increased health benefits and fuller flavor.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating the flour mixture with the water, as the blender continues to mix.

Pour the batter into the sprayed loaf pans.

Bake as directed.

Test to see if the bread is done with a toothpick.
It is done if the toothpick comes out with no batter sticking to it.

Allow to cool as directed.

Enjoy this great tasting, sweet aroma, healthful bread.

"Be strong and of good courage.  Do not be afraid or dismayed...for there is One greater with us than with (the world).  With (the world) is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles."  (2 Chronicles 32:7-8)  If you are a child of God, He has innumerable promises for you.  Take time to learn them and know them.  Take time to know Him.  If you are not sure if you are a child of God, ask Him to make you His child.  He will.  And the promises will be yours.

Continue memorizing your Scripture verse each week and working on homework.
See you in the next lesson!
