Week 18 - Day 2

*Taking time to plan
can save you time and money
and help you be an efficient manager of your home.

Learn ways to plan ahead
in the Healthy Home Ec book on page 241.

We are "wrapping it up" this week,
our last week of Healthy Home Ec
this semester.
Let's wrap up some Breakfast Wraps today.
Gather your supplies and ingredients.

If you'd like to add tomatoes, green peppers, onions,
or any other ingredients such as mushrooms, salsa, etc.,
prepare them first.
These are optional.

This is what is required for today's lesson.
You can use any type of natural tortilla or wrap that you prefer.
Read the ingredients.
Choose bacon without nitrates or preservatives.
Page 243 in your text mentions Applewood Brand...
it's actually Applegate Brand.  Applewood is the wood used to smoke the bacon.
Simple Truth brand is the one pictured, and it is hickory smoked.

Fry the bacon.

Shred your own cheese.

Mix together the egg, milk, and pepper.

Transfer cooked bacon to a plate covered with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Dab with an additional paper towel.

Drain grease into a empty tin can or into aluminum foil.
Never put grease down the sink.
It will clog the drains.

If you are adding vegetables,
you can now lightly saute them in the hot skillet for about 1 minute,
just to soften them slightly.

Remove vegetables if you used them and transfer to another plate and set aside.
Add the egg mixture to the hot skillet and cook until done.

Add the cheese.

Cook for another minute or two until cheese is melted.

Spoon the cooked egg mixture into a warmed tortilla.
(You can warm them in a microwave for a few seconds,
or in a preheated oven for about 5 minutes at about 250 degrees.)

 Add crumbled bacon.

Add veggies if desired.
This increases the health benefits of this breakfast meal.

 Roll up the tortilla wrap.

Serve with fresh fruit if desired.

This is one without the added vegetables.

Continue reviewing for your second 9 weeks exam in 2 days,
and planning for your celebration meal in 3 days.
Tomorrow we'll be making Mediterranean Chicken Wraps.
See you then.
